Abstract

Abstract In a distributed system having a plurality of interconnected computer systems each having an application program (101), a process manager (102) which determines the need for a communication process, determines an identifier of a destination system and a protocol and issues a communication process request in response to a process request for database access from the application program, and a virtual communication user (103) for determining an application context in response to the communication process request from the process manager are provided, and a communication path a protocol machine (104) establishes for the virtual communication user. A plurality of virtual communication users (103) for managing the communication process are provided and each virtual communication user manages a plurality of protocol machines (104) so that a plurality of protocols and application programs are simultaneously used for a plurality of destination systems from one application program.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 175 words
A distributed system having a plurality of interconnected computer systems each having a database (105) connected thereto, comprising: a table (407) indicating a relation between a content designated at the time of an access process request from an application program (101) to be executed by said computer system to said database and a destination system; first means (102) responsive to said access process request for issuing a communication process request by determining a protocol to be used with the destination system by using said table; second means (103) responsive to said communication process request from said first means for recognizing an application context from the content of the communication process request and adding the same to the communication process request; and third means (104) responsive to said communication process request from said second means for establishing a communication path and executing the communication process; said application program merely designating the destination system to said first means in the communication while said first to third means jointly establish the communication path and execute the communication process.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 33 words
A distributed system according to Claim 1 wherein a plurality of second means (103) are connected to said first means, and a plurality of third means (104) are connected to said second means.
Claim 3
Independent Claim 123 words
A method for controlling a plurality of protocols and a plurality of application contexts in a distributed system having a plurality of interconnected computer systems each having a database connected thereto, comprising the steps of: registering in a table a relation between a content designated at the time of a process request for the access to said database from an application program to be executed by said computer system and a destination system; designating by said application program the information for specifying the destination system for the database access; determining the destination system and the protocol to be used by using said table in response to the information specified from said application program; and establishing a communication path by using the determined protocol.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 67 words
A method according to Claim 3 wherein said determination step includes a first step for recognizing the destination system, a second step for determining a protocol to be used in the communication with the recognized destination system, and a third step for determining an application context to be used by the determined protocol, and a plurality of processes are parallelly executed in said second and third steps.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method according to Claim 4 wherein said third step is executed for a plurality of communication paths.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 59 words
A method according to claim 4 or claim 5 further comprising the steps of: analyzing the content designated by said application program to determine whether the connection to other computer system is required or not; executing said first step when the connection is required; and accessing the database of its own computer system when the connection is not required.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 22 words
A method according to any one of claims 3 to 6, wherein said application program specifies the protocol for the destination system.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 23 words
A method according to any one of claims 3 to 7, wherein said application program specifies the connection item of the destination system.
