Abstract

Abstract An integrated services communication system (1) ISDN in which a plurality of ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7) can be coupled to an S 0 bus (4) coupled to a private branch exchange (2), of which a maximum of 2 terminal stations can be active over B-channels. There is proposed also to connect incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8) to the S 0 bus (4), which stations have many non-ISDN supported features, there being investigated on line cards (9, 10, 11) which type of terminal station is connected. On the basis of a Terminal Endpoint Identifier (TEI) in a layer-2 message, either a standard ISDN protocol is handled from layer-2 onwards, or a firm-owned protocol.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 151 words
Communication system (1) based on an integrated services digital network ISDN, comprising a private branch exchange (2) coupled to a public network (3), the private branch exchange being coupled to a passive bus (4) for connecting ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7) which communicate with the public network (3) via the private branch exchange (2), signalling being effected over an ISDN D-channel, characterized in that also incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8) can be connected to the passive bus (4), which stations communicate with the public network via the private branch exchange (2), the private branch exchange (2) comprising switching means (12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19) switching, on the basis of messages sent by the terminal stations (6, 7, 8), between an ISDN standard message handling protocol for the ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7) and a firm-owned message handling protocol for the incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 106 words
Communication system (1) as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that communication between the incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8) and the private branch exchange (2) is effected via a standard ISDN layer-1 and via a layer-2 having a standard ISDN address field (21; SAPI, TEI), the switching means (12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19) in the private branch exchange (2) switching to the firm-owned message handling protocol on the basis of an ISDN Terminal Endpoint Identifier (TEI) in the address field (21), the Terminal Endpoint Identifier (TEI) having a predetermined value from a group of values in the incompletely ISDN supported terminal station (8).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 57 words
Communication system (1) as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that two incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8) or one incompletely ISDN supported terminal station (8) plus a maximum of seven ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7), thus eight ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7) in all, may be connected to the passive bus (4).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 148 words
Private branch exchange (2) for a communication system (1) based on an integrated services digital network ISDN, the private branch exchange (2) being coupled to a passive bus (4) for connecting ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7) which communicate with a public network (3) via the private branch exchange (2), signalling being effected over an ISDN D-channel, characterized in that also incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8) can be connected to the passive bus (4), which stations can communicate with the public network (3) via the private branch exchange (2), the private branch exchange (2) comprising switching means (12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19) switching, on the basis of messages sent by the terminal stations (6, 7, 8), between an ISDN standard message handling protocol for the ISDN supported terminal stations (6, 7) and a firm-owned message handling protocol for the incompletely ISDN supported terminal stations (8).
