Abstract The cam shaft (1) is provided with means which vary the inlet stroke of the actuated valves, this being achieved by the fact that the part (4') of each cam (4) actuating the respective valve (6) is automatically displaced essentially perpendicularly to the axis of rotation of the shaft (1) itself. <IMAGE>
