Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 135 words
A suture fastening device (100) which comprises: (a) a first member (110) including a base portion (111) having a lengthwise extension defined by its longest side and with first (112) and second (113) legs projecting from said base portion, said first and second legs being resiliently biased toward a spaced apart position from each other and movable toward each other in response to force applied thereto; and (b) a second member (120) having a lengthwise extension defined by its longest side, said second member having an aperture (121) for receiving said first and second legs of said first member; the device being characterised in that: (c) the first and second legs extend lengthwise along the base portion, to face each other; with a gap (114) in between, along the lengthwise extension of the base portion.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 20 words
The suture fastening device of claim 1 wherein said first and second legs are substantially perpendicular to said base portion.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
The suture fastening device of claim 1 or 2 wherein said first and second members are substantially parallel to each other when mutually engaged.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 56 words
The suture fastening device of claims 1, 2 or 3, wherein said first (112) and second (113) legs each possess a camming surface (115a, 116a) and said second member (120) possesses camming means (121a) for camming against said camming surfaces of said first and second legs to move said first and second legs toward each other.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
The suture fastening device of claim 4 wherein said camming means of said second member is an edge (121a) defined by the conjunction of said aperture with a bottom surface (123) of said second member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
The suture fastening device of any of the preceding claims including means (115, 116) for joining said first and second members in snap-fit locking engagement.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 56 words
The suture fastening device of claim 6 wherein said means for joining includes at least one barb (115, 116) extending from at least one of said first and second legs, said barb having an abutment surface (115b, 116b) for preventing disengagement of said first and second members after said first and second members have been engaged.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
The suture fastening device of any of the preceding claims wherein said first and second members are fabricated from a bioabsorbable material.
