Claim 1
Independent Claim
188 words
A lancet comprising (a) a lancet body (12) with a needle end (16) protruding from
a lancet end (20) of said lancet body (12), and (b) a needle protector (14) for protecting the needle end
(16) before use and for substantially insulating the
needle end (16) after use; said needle protector (14) comprising a hood portion (22)
tightly fittable on the lancet end (20) from which the needle
end (16) protrudes, in such a manner that the hood portion
(22) may be fitted on the lancet end (20) to substantially
insulate the needle end (16) from the environment after use of
the lancet (10); characterized in that (1) before use, the needle protector (14) is connected to the
body (12), but is capable of being twisted off the body
(12), (2) said needle protector (14) comprises, for protecting the
needle end (16) before use, another portion than said
hood portion (22); (3) said other portion is integrally formed with said hood
portion (22); and (4) said hood portion (22) is fittable on said lancet end
such that the lancet end (20) is disengageable from the
hood portion (22).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
26 words
The lancet as defined in claim 1, characterized in that
the lancet end (20) is intereference-fitted in the hood portion
(22) of the needle protector (14).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
26 words
The lancet as defined in claim 1, characterized in that
the lancet end (20) is snap-fitted in the hood portion (22) of
the needle protector (14).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
59 words
The lancet as defined in claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized
in that the hood portion (22) has at its one end an opening
(28) for receiving the lancet end (20), and at its other end a
closed bottom (30) comprising a thick wall (32) which is
pierced by at least a portion of the protruding needle end
(16).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
82 words
The lancet as defined in claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized
in that the hood portion (22) has at its one end an opening
(28) for receiving the lancet end (20), and also has at its
other end a bottom through which a bore (38) is formed with a
further opening (30), and wherein each of the bore (38) and
the further opening (30) is of such a length, diameter and
shape as to insulate the needle end (16) from the outside.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
66 words
The lancet as defined in claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized
in that the hood portion (22) has at its one end an opening
(28) for receiving the lancet end (20), and at its other end a
bottom having an elongate recess (42) which extends towards
but short of the other end in such a manner as to insulate the
needle end (16) from the outside.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
42 words
The lancet as defined in any one of the preceding claims,
characterized in that the lancet body (12) and the needle protector
(14) are integrally formed as a single structure and
the needle protector (14) being separable from the lancet body
(12).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
27 words
The lancet as defined in any one of the preceding claims,
characterized in that the lancet body (12) and the needle protector
(14) comprise molded polymeric material.
