Abstract

Abstract An arrangement for protecting vehicle occupants during side collisions. The arrangement comprises at least one air bag (15) mounted in a vehicle seat and a sensor (16) for initiating pyrotechnic means (14) for inflating the bag (15). The sensor (16) is mounted on a frame (12) in the vehicle seat (11) and connected to the vehicle body. The vehicle body's sides and/or doors (21) comprise compression load transfer means (23) which extend to respective sensor means (16) in such a way that the sensor (16) can be actuated by a deformation of the corresponding side and/or door (21) of the body.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 105 words
Arrangement for protecting vehicle occupants during side collisions, comprising at least one air bag (15) mounted in a vehicle seat and a sensor (16) for initiating pyrotechnic means (14) for inflation of said bag (15), characterized in that said sensor (16) is mounted on a frame (12) in the vehicle seat (11) and connected to the vehicle body, and in that the sides and/or doors (21) of the vehicle comprise compression load transfer means (23) which extend to the respective sensor (16) in such a way that the sensor can be actuated by a deformation of the corresponding side and/or door (21) of the body.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 105 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 53 words
Arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that the sensor (16) is placed on the frame (12) of an adjustable seat (10, 11), and in that the extension of the compression load transfer means (23) in the vehicle's height and lengthwise directions corresponds at least to the range of adjustment of the seat.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 37 words
Arrangement according to either of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the sensor (16) is pyrotechnic and is connected, via at least one pyrotechnic line, to a gas generator (14) connected with the air bag (15).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 43 words
Arrangement according to any one of claims 1-3, characterized in that the compression load transferring means comprise a pivotally supported plate (18) which extends in a plane being, to a greater extent, perpendicular to the actuating means (16a) of said sensor means (16).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 59 words
Arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the compression load transferring means comprise a plate structure (24) with longitudinal and lateral plates (24a, 24b) in the door interior, said plates bridging the space between a reinforcing beam (25) in the door and a door panel (26) mounted on the inner side of said door.
