Abstract
Abstract Intramedullary pin (1) with self-locking end for metadiaphyseal fractures, constituted by a proximal stub (2) provided with means (3) for fixing to the cortices; the ends of at least two curved and elastically deformable stems (8) are axially rigidly associated with the stub (2), and the stems (8) are adapted to expand elastically and to press with their tips (9) the walls of the bone from the inside of the medullary canal.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
85 words
Intramedullary pin (1) for metadiaphyseal fractures of long bones characterised in that the pin comprises a self-locking end (1a) and a proximal stub (2) provided with means (3) for fixing to the proximal cortices the ends of at least two curved and elastically deformable stems (8) being rigidly associated axially to said stub, the tips (9) of said stems anchoring themselves in the medullary spongy bone and pressing the inner walls of the bones to produce an integral coupling between the pin and the bone.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
47 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in claim 1 characterized in that said means (3) for fixing the proximal stub (2) comprise a threaded oblique hole (4) in the stub (2) in which the stem of a screw (4a) adapted to pass through the bone cortices can be screwed.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
21 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 characterized in that the stub (2) has a slightly curved axis.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
30 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in any preceding claim characterized in that said stems (8) have rounded ends (9) and that one of the stems is slightly longer than the other.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in any preceding claim characterized in that said stems (8) have a slight procurvature for improved binding of fractured femur bones.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
18 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in any preceding claim characterized in that the pin comprises at least three stems.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
30 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in any preceding claim characterised in that once the fracture has consolidated the pin may be removed from the bone by pulling on the stub (2).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
20 words
Intramedullary pin as claimed in claim 7 characterised in that a handle (7) may be attached to the stub (2).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
139 words
Intramedullary pin (1) for metadiaphyseal fractures of long bones characterised in that the pin comprises a self-locking end (1a) and a proximal stub (2) provided with means (3) for fixing to the proximal cortices, the ends of at least two curved and elastically deformable stems (8) being rigidly associated axially to said stub (2), said stems (8) having, at their free ends, tips (9) which are adapted to be mutually adjacent during the insertion of the pin (1) in the medullary canal through the metadiaphysis and to release when the pin is in correct position so as to allow the elastic expansion of the stems (8), whereupon the tips (9) of said stems anchor themselves in the medullary spongy bone and press the inner walls of the bones to produce an integral coupling between the pin and the bone.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
90 words
Intramedullary pin (1) with a self-locking end accommodated in a metadiaphyseal-fractured long bone, the pin comprising a proximal stub (2) fixed to a proximal cortex of the bone by fixing means (3), at least two curved and elastically deformable stems (8) with ends rigidly associated axially to said stub, said stems (8) extending inside the medullary canal of the bone and being elastically expanded such that the tips (9) of the stems are anchored in the intramedullary spongy bone to produce an integral coupling between the pin and the bone.
