Abstract

Abstract A high-resolution digital filter of a type which comprises a memory structure receiving as input a sampled digital signal, and an adder chain with delay blocks therebetween, the adders being connected to memory outputs to convert the input signal into an output signal having predetermined frequency response characteristics, has the memory structure made up of at least one pair of non-volatile memories (3,4) being input each one portion (x(n)₁,x(n)₂) only of the sampled signal.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 80 words
A high-resolution digital filter of a type which comprises a memory structure receiving as input a sampled digital signal, and an adder chain, with delay blocks therebetween, which adders are connected to outputs of said memory in order to convert the input signal into an output signal having predetermined frequency response characteristics, characterized in that said memory structure comprises at least one pair of non-volatile memories (3,4), each one receiving as input one portion (x(n)₁,x(n)₂) only of the sampled signal.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 48 words
A digital filter according to Claim 1, characterized in that one (3) of said memories receives as input the most significant portion (x(n)1) of the digital coding of the sampled signal, whereas the other (4) of said memories is input the least significant portion (x(n)2) of said coding.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
A digital filter according to Claim 1, characterized in that said memories have the same size.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 16 words
A digital filter according to Claim 1, characterized in that said memories contain the same data.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
A digital filter according to Claim 1, characterized in that said memories are read-only memories.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 14 words
A digital filter according to Claim 5, characterized in that said memories are EPROM's.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 38 words
A digital filter according to Claim 1, characterized in that said memories (3,4) have a number of rows equal to the (n/2)-th power of two, with (n/2) being the number of bits in the corresponding encoded signal portion.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 81 words
A method of filtering a digital code sampled signal, characterized in that it comprises, in a digital filter environment, the steps of: splitting, at each discrete time, the sampled signal into at least two portions complementing each other; decoding, with each of said portions, a corresponding non-volatile memory containing coefficients which represent a desired frequency response of the filter; and adding the results of the decoding step together to re-construct an output signal having the same characteristic as the sampled signal.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 41 words
A method according to Claim 8, characterized in that one memory (3) receiving as input the most significant portion (x(n)1) of the digital coding of the sampled signal, and the other memory (4) the least significant portion (x(n)2) of said coding.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method according to Claim 8, characterized in that the decoding step is carried out with at least one pair of EPROM memories.
