Abstract
Abstract The line-data generating unit of this apparatus automatically reads a map image through an image scanner, generates a digital-image signal in a pattern-recognition module, prepares line data in a line-data image processing unit, and stores the line data in RAM (I). A data converter retrieves the line data from the line-data generating unit, prepares plane data, and issues the plane data to a property-data preparation unit. Through a closed-area-data image processing unit, the property-information preparation unit, based on instructions input from a keyboard, interpolates points of discontinuity in the plane data; assigns properties corresponding to such points, and prints the output. RAM (II) stores completed data. The interpolation of points of discontinuity in the plane data is performed jointly and simultaneously by input terminals PCi (i = 1, 2, ..., n). Using this method, accurate plane data can be easily and rapidly prepared by reading an original topographical map or the like so that vector line-data is transformed into plane data whose points of discontinuity have been corrected--thus making the plane data completed and accurate.

An apparatus for preparing map data for generating closed-area data corresponding to plane data by generating two-dimensional vector line data on the basis of raster data obtained by reading an original map, automatically generating plane data consisting of at least point and line data, and generating line data obtained by connecting a point of discontinuity in line data forming plane data to any other point data or line data on the basis of said vector line data, and for storing, displaying, or printing said closed-area data together with attribute data assigned to said closed-area data.

An apparatus for preparing map data, said apparatus comprising: a line-data output means (1) for issuing two-dimensional vector line-data on the basis of raster data obtained by automatically reading an original map, such as a topographical map and the like; a plane-data output means (2) for generating and issues plane data, said plane data (which consists of at least point data and line data) being generated on the basis of a vector line data issued from said line-data output means (1); and, a map-data generating means (3) for storing, displays and prints closed-area data corresponding to the various property data that has been input, said closed-area data being formed by generating line data that connects a point of discontinuity in line data that forms plane data to other point or line data.

An apparatus for preparing map data, as set forth in claim 1, wherein: said apparatus further comprises a number of closed-area-data output means (4-1, 4-2, ..., 4-n) for completing said plane data as closed-area data by generating said line data, said line data connects said point of discontinuity of said line data forming said plane data to another point data or line data, said plane data thus completed being issued from said plurality of said closed-area-data output means (4-1, 4-2, ..., 4-n); and, said plane-data output means (2) generates said plane data, said plane data (which consists of at least point data and line data) being generated on the basis of vector line data issued from said line-data output means (1) divides said plane data into a plurality of pieces of plane data; allots a predetermined display data to discontinuous point data for the line data that forms each of said pieces of plane data thus divided; issues said pieces of plane data to each of said closed-area-data output means (4-1, 4-2, ..., 4-n); and, issues closed-area data to said map-data generating means (3).
