Abstract

Abstract A bar code printer capable of printing bar codes simultaneously with character strings made of, for example, alphanumeric characters. Operating a bar code key causes a bar code input display to appear on a display and the bar code start code to be stored in a bar code buffer. Then operating a number key causes a number code representing the number to be stored in the bar code buffer and a dot pattern representing the number code to be output to a video RAM. Operating an execution key while a 13 digit number code is stored in the bar code buffer will additionally cause an end code to be stored in the bar code buffer and the resultant code string to be stored in a text memory.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 59 words
A bar code printer comprising: input means for inputting data, the data including at least code data representative of each of a plurality of characters and each of a plurality of symbols; storage means for storing the data input through said input means; and converting means for converting the data read from said storage means into dot pattern data.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 33 words
A bar code printer according to claim 1, further comprising reading means for sequentially reading data stored in said storage means in the order that the data are input through said input means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A bar code printer according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising printing means for printing the dot pattern data on an elongated, web-like tape.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 67 words
A bar code printer according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein said input means is further input with bar code data having bar code start data representative of a start of a bar code, at least one data character, and bar code end data representative of an end of the bar code, and wherein said storage means has storage locations for storing the bar code data.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 65 words
A bar code printer according to claim 4, wherein said converting means translates the bar code data into another bar code data of a predetermined version based on a character number contained in the data character, and wherein said converting means converts the another bar code data into dot pattern data so that printing can be carried out based on the converted dot pattern data.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 93 words
A printer for printing on an elongated web-like tape, comprising: input means for inputting at least alphanumeric characters and bar code data; storage means for storing the alphanumeric characters and the bar code data input through said input means; reading means for sequentially reading data stored in said storage means in the order that the alphanumeric characters and the bar code data are input; converting means for converting the data read from said storage means into dot pattern data; and printing means for printing the dot pattern dot on the elongated web-like tape.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 43 words
A printer as claimed in claim 6, wherein the bar code data have bar code start data representative of a start of a bar code, at least one data character, and bar code end data representative of an end of the bar code.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 71 words
A printer as claimed in claim 6 or 7 wherein said converting means translates the bar code data into an other bar code data of a predetermined version based on a character number contained in the data character of the bar code, and wherein said converting means converts the another bar code data into dot patterns data so that printing can be carried out based on the converted dot pattern data.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 33 words
A printer according to any one of the preceding claims further comprising means for receiving a print tape cassette containing an elongated, web-like tape, and wherein printing is carried out on the tape.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 27 words
A printer according to any one of the preceding claims further comprising display means for displaying at least alphanumeric characters and symbols input through said input means.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 33 words
A printer according to claim 10, wherein said display means further displays a start mark corresponding to the bar code start data and an end mark corresponding to the bar code end data.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 21 words
A printer according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the bar code data are translated into a standard version.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 22 words
A printer according to any one of claims 1 to 11 wherein the bar code data are translated into a reduced version.
