Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 158 words
A device (10) for percutaneous transluminal repair of septal defects comprising: a first occluder (12) and a second occluder (14) each having a collapsed cross sectional configuration smaller than that of a defect to be repaired and an expanded configuration larger than that of the defect; and a connector (16) for fastening said first occluder to said second occluder, wherein said device is insertable into a patient when said first and second occluders are connected by said connector; characterised in that said connector allows rotational motion of said first occluder relative to said second occluder when said occluders are in their expanded configurations, in that at least one of said first occluder (12) or said second occluder (14) comprises a central hub (16) having a plurality of elongated struts (18) radiating therefrom, and in that at least one of said elongated struts (18) includes a flexural hinge point (22) at a location remote from said central hub (16).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 18 words
The device of claim 1 wherein at least one of said elongated struts (18) comprises a radiopaque material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
The device of claim 1 wherein at least one of said elongated struts (18) includes a radiopaque material on at least one surface thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
The device of claim 1 wherein said connector comprises a linked loop assembly (82,84,86).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
The device of claim 1 wherein said connector comprises a ball and collar assembly (54,58,62,72).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
The device of claim 1 wherein said connector includes at least one pivot location (62).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 25 words
The device of claim 3 wherein each occluder includes at least one elongated strut (18) having a radiopaque material on at least one surface thereof.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
The device of claim 7 wherein the radiopaque material on said first occluder (12) is fluoroscopically distinguishable from the radiopaque material on said second occluder (14).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 27 words
The device of claim 1 wherein at least one of said elongated struts (18) includes a flexural hinge point (20) located adjacent to said central hub (16).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 22 words
The device of claim 1 wherein at least one of said elongated struts (18) includes a loop (24) at its distal end.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 13 words
The device of claim 2 wherein said radiopaque material comprises a gold coating.
