Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for terminal-oriented performance monitoring in a telecommunications network comprising a public side and a subscriber side with terminals. According to the invention, information with respect to network performance is collected by the subscriber terminals or in connection with the subscriber terminals and transferred to the public side. The information includes the grade of service, information on error conditions and information on the quality of the transmission channel in the network. With the aid of the invention the network operator is provided with a picture of the performance from the point of view of the customer and he can thus operate the network more effectively at the same time as the performance experienced by the customer is kept under control.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 19
Claim 1
Independent Claim 70 words
1 A method for performance monitoring in a telecommunications network having a first side which comprises a public network and having a second side which comprises a subscribers' network with subscriber terminals, characterised in that the method includes the steps of collecting information relating to the performance of the telecommunications network on the subscribers' side of the network and transferring the collected information to the public side of the network.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 70 words
1 A method for performance monitoring in a telecommunications network having a first side which comprises a public network and having a second side which comprises a subscribers' network with subscriber terminals, characterised in that the method includes the steps of collecting information relating to the performance of the telecommunications network on the subscribers' side of the network and transferring the collected information to the public side of the network.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
2 A method as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the information relating to network performance is collected by means that are part of, or associated with, the subscriber terminals.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the network is a mobile telephone network and in that the subscriber terminals are mobile terminals.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 28 words
A method as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the collected information includes information relating to the grade of service provided by the network.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 55 words
A method as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the grade of service information includes information relating to the amount of time a subscriber terminal was unable to communicate with the public side of the network during the period of time the said terminal was activated but outside the coverage area of the terminal.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 27 words
A method as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the collected information includes information relating to all error conditions associated with call switching.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 26 words
A method as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the collected information includes information relating to the quality of the transmission channel.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 36 words
A method as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the transfer of the collected information is facilitated by a protocol established between the subscriber terminals and the public side of the network.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
A method as claimed in claim 8, characterised in that the transfer of the collected information is effected as part of call set-up, call transfer, or call disconnection.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 61 words
An arrangement for performance monitoring in a telecommunications network having a first side which comprises a public network and a second side which comprises a subscribers' network with subscriber terminals, characterised in that the subscriber terminals include or are associated with means for collecting information on network performance and for transferring the collected information to the public side of the network.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 61 words
An arrangement for performance monitoring in a telecommunications network having a first side which comprises a public network and a second side which comprises a subscribers' network with subscriber terminals, characterised in that the subscriber terminals include or are associated with means for collecting information on network performance and for transferring the collected information to the public side of the network.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 26 words
An arrangement as claimed in claim 10, characterised in that the network is a mobile telephone network and in that the subscriber terminals are mobile terminals.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 18 words
An arrangement as claimed in claim 10, characterised in that the network is a landline or data network.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 66 words
An arrangement as claimed in any of the claims 10 to 12, characterised in that the means for collecting and transferring information includes sensing means adapted to sense selected activities of the subscriber terminals, storage means for storing the information relating to the operation of the sensing means and transmission means for effecting the transfer of the stored information to the public side of the network.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 50 words
An arrangement as claimed in any of the claims 10 to 13, characterised in that the collected information includes information relating to the grade of service provided by the network and in that the means for collecting said grade of service information include a time-controlled unit and a memory unit.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 38 words
An arrangement as claimed in any of the claims 10 to 14, characterised in that the means for collecting information are adapted for the collection and transfer of information relating to all error conditions associated with call switching.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 37 words
An arrangement as claimed in any of the claims 10 to 15 characterised in that the means for collecting information are adapted for the collection and transfer of information relating to the quality of the transmission channel.
Claim 19
Independent Claim 32 words
A system including an arrangement as claimed in any of the claims 10 to 16 and/or operated in accordance with the method as claimed in any of the claims 1 to 9.
