Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
82 words
A cover assembly comprising: a stretchable, elastomeric tube capable of recovering at least a portion of its original size and shape after being stretched and released; and a frangible inner support core sized and possessing sufficient strength to support said tube in a radially stretched condition, said core further being susceptible to breaking upon the application of force beyond that produced by said tube, so that the application of sufficient force causes breakage of said core, thus permitting contraction of said tube.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
15 words
The cover assembly of claim 1 wherein said core is constructed of a brittle resin.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
11 words
The cover assembly of claim 2 wherein said resin is epoxy.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
22 words
The cover assembly of claim 1 wherein said core includes a helical groove along its length to facilitate breakage of said core.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
19 words
The cover assembly of claim 1 wherein said core includes fibers imbedded therein to facilitate breakage of said core.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
11 words
The cover assembly of claim 5 wherein said fibers are monofilaments.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
15 words
The cover assembly of claim 1 wherein said core includes voids and is thus discontinuous.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
22 words
The cover assembly of claim 7 wherein said core is formed from shaped fibers and said voids are spaces between said fibers.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
21 words
The cover assembly of claim 1 further including at least one additional layer within said core of a viscous, sealant material.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
14 words
The cover assembly of claim 9 wherein said viscous, sealant material is a mastic.
