Abstract

Abstract The location independent personal telecommunications system of the present invention enables a subscriber to have a single personal telephone directory number. When that personal telephone number is dialed, the system uses the existing public and cellular communication systems and a service node all comprising parts of the personal telecommunications system to route the call to the present, or last known location of the subscriber. The location of the subscriber is determined by the personal telecommunications system through a radio tracking system comprised of a number of radio base stations that monitor the subscriber's location by communicating with a personal communicator carried by the subscriber. The subscriber location information is transmitted from the base stations to the service node for storage and subsequent access when a call is placed to the subscriber's personal telephone number. The service node will then transfer the call to the proper telephone number at the location where the subscriber is currently, or last known to be located, or if not at a fixed location with a known phone, notify the subscriber through the base stations and the personal communicator of the incoming call.

A personal telecommunications system for enabling a caller communicate with an individual at any location through the dialing of a personal phone number assigned to the individual, comprising: a plurality of telephones, each at a fixed location designated by the individual, each telephone having a different specified telephone number; telephone switching means connected to a plurality of telephones including the telephones at the locations designated by the individual for routing calls to the proper telephone; means for determining the presence of the individual at one of the designated fixed locations; and control means, connected to the telephone switching means and the means for determining, for receiving an incoming call placed by the caller to the personal phone number assigned to the individual and for routing the incoming call through the telephone switching means to the telephone at the designated fixed location where the presence of an individual has been identified as determined by the means for determining.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 114 words
The personal telecommunications system as in Claim 1 wherein the telephone switching means comprises: one or more local exchange switches, each exchange switch coupled for communication with a number of the plurality of telephones, with at least one exchange switch connected to the control means for delivering thereto the incoming call dialed to the personal phone number; and an access tandem switch coupled for communication with each of the local exchange switches and the control means, the tandem switch having means for connecting the incoming call as rerouted by and received from the control means to the telephone number for the phone at present fixed location for the individual through the proper exchange switch.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 84 words
The personal telecommunications system as in Claim 1 wherein the means for determining comprises: central communications means connected to the control means; remote communications means at each fixed location designated by the individual for communications with the central communications means; and personal communications means in communication with an in range remote communications means, the present location of the individual determined the location of the communications means presently communicating with the personal communicator, the present location of the individual being communicated to the control means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
The personal telecommunications system as in Claim 3 wherein the central and remote communications means comprise radio base stations for transmitting and receiving location information on the individual.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
The personal telecommunications system as in Claim 3 wherein the personal communications means comprises a microprocessor controlled radio transceiver for transmitting and receiving location information on the individual.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 58 words
