Monocrystalline particles of iron-oxide for application in medical diagnosis and therapy
Abstract
Abstract The invention relates to nanocrystalline magnetic particles consisting of a magnetic iron oxide core composed of Fe3O4, gamma -Fe2O3 or mixtures thereof and of a shell chemisorbed onto this core, to processes for the production of these particles and to the use thereof in medical diagnosis and therapy. The magnetic particles according to the invention are distinguished by the shell material being composed of natural or synthetic glycosaminoglycans and their derivatives with molecular weights of 500 Da to 250,000 Da and being optionally covalently crosslinked by suitable crosslinkers and/or modified by specific additives.
