Abstract

Abstract Odd fields of a high speed television signal corresponding to even field intervals of a television signal having a reference frequency are read out from field memories 6, 7 with the time base of the odd fields being expanded. An arithmetical mean of the odd fields thus read out is taken by means of an adder 15 and a divider 16. The signal thus obtained is used as an odd field signal. Further, even fields of the high speed television signal corresponding to odd field intervals of the television signal having the reference frequency are read out from field memories 8, 9 with the time base of the even fields being expanded. An arithmetical mean of the even fields thus read out is taken by means of an adder 17 and a divider 18. The signal thus obtained is used as an even field signal. The odd and even field signals are combined to produce a television signal of the reference frequency.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 204 words
A method of converting a high speed television signal, having a frequency which is N times greater than that of a television signal having a reference frequency, into a television signal of the reference frequency, the method comprising: selecting the odd fields and the even fields of the high speed television signal corresponding to respective intervals of the even fields and the odd fields of the television signal having the reference frequency, the total number of odd and even fields of the high speed television signal corresponding to each said interval being equal to N where N is an odd number; expanding the time base of the selected odd fields of the high speed television signal over a certain interval of said intervals thereafter and taking an arithmetical mean thereof to generate a mean odd field signal; and expanding the time base of the selected even fields of said high speed television signal over the next interval thereafter and taking an arithmetical mean thereof to generate a mean even field signal, whereby the fields of said mean odd field signal and said mean even field signal correspond to the odd fields and the even fields respectively of said television signal having the reference frequency.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 155 words
A method of converting a high speed television signal, having a frequency which is N times greater than that of a television signal having a reference frequency, into a television signal of the reference frequency, the method comprising: selecting odd fields and even fields of the high speed television signal corresponding to respective intervals of even fields and odd fields of said television signal having the reference frequency, the total number of odd fields and even fields of the high speed television signal corresponding to each said interval being equal to N where N is an odd number and the selected odd fields and even fields being positioned across the boundary between the even fields and odd fields of said television signal having the reference frequency; and expanding the time base of the selected even fields and odd fields of said high speed television signal thereby to generate a television signal having the reference frequency.
Claim 3
Independent Claim 108 words
A method of converting a high speed television signal having a scanning rate N (where N is an integer) times greater than that of a standard television signal, the method comprising: detecting a marker signal generated at the scanning rate of the standard television signal and inserted in the high speed television signal; and generating a memory control signal on the basis of the detected marker signal to control write/read operations of a memory which is arranged to expand the time base of said high speed television signal, thereby to generate a television signal having a scanning rate equal to the scanning rate of said standard television signal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
A method as claimed in claim 3, wherein said marker signal has a white level of 100%.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
A method as claimed in claim 3 or claim 4, wherein said marker signal is inserted at a position corresponding to a vertical retrace interval of said standard television signal.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 14 words
A method as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein N is equal to 3.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
A scanning rate converter arranged to perform the method of any one of the preceding claims.
