Abstract Optical amplifier in the spectral range 1.26 to 1.34 mu m, characterised in that it includes a solid fluorine-containing glass substrate (2) doped with praseodymium in which is made a single-mode waveguide (3) in three dimensions exhibiting a difference in index DELTA n, by comparison with that of the said fluorine-containing glass, of between 4 x 10<-3> and 8 x 10<-2>, the said waveguide being associated through coupling means with an optical pump of wavelength equal to 1.02 mu m +/- 0.1 mu m. <IMAGE>
