Abstract

Abstract A user describes a tree or a set of trees in a table, and a system generates a data structure corresponding to the tree or the set of trees on memory in accordance with the description. The table has one or more columns in which for each node, attributes given to the node are entered. The system interprets the table; allocates a memory area to each of the nodes, sets data on the attributes given to the node; and generates pointer data indicating the connections of the memory areas. The hierarchy of the nodes and the sequence of nodes linked immediately below the same node are determined on the basis of the sequence of rows corresponding to the nodes and levels assigned to the nodes in the table.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 80 words
A method for generating a data structure corresponding to a tree or a set of trees in a memory of a computer system, the method comprising: (a) entering attributes corresponding to nodes of said tree or said set of trees into one or more columns of a table; and (b) interpreting the table, thereby allocating a memory area to each of the nodes, setting data on the attributes given thereto, and generating pointer data indicating connections between such memory areas.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 47 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, comprising: (a) displaying a table for entering an attribute given to each of said nodes contained in the tree or said set of trees; and (b) editing the table on the basis of the data received from data entry means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 32 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the table includes a column for entering the level of each of the nodess in the tree or set of trees.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 63 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the table interpretation step determines the hierarchy of the nodes and the sequence of nodes linked immediately below the same node on the basis of the sequence of rows describing the attributes given to the nodes and the levels assigned to the nodes in the table, and generates pointer data in accordance with the determination.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the table includes a column for entering the number of nodes belonging to each of the node kinds.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
A method as claimed in claim 5 wherein the column for describing numbers of nodes includes a column for entering a maximum value and a column for describing a minimum value.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
A method as claimed in claim 5 wherein the number of child nodes is described in the row containing their parent node.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 46 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the table includes a column where, for each of the nodes it is described whether it is mandatory or not that such a node exists in every tree that is a member of the set.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 56 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, further comprising, prior to the table interpretation step, detecting the presence or absence of an insufficient entry in the table, and merging, in response to detecting the presence of an insufficient entry, the table and another table into a single table to supplement the insufficient entry.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 11 words
A system for performing the method claimed in any preceding claim.
