Abstract

Abstract A device is to make efficient use of the free time between speech transmissions and binary coded data transmission and is to a switching device (30) which will automatically output both the binary coded data and the outgoing speech signals to the telephone line (L) and will connect each of incoming signals received from the telephone line (L). A device is comprising an outgoing transmission block (1) and an incoming transmission block (2). Outgoing transmission block (1) outputs speech signal (S1) or data signal (D1) selectively with one of two tone signals (A, B) of different frequencies. Incoming transmission block (2) first identifies incoming signals by two band-pass filters (23a, 23b) and connects incoming signals either to a speech restoration circuit (27a, 30, 31) or to a data restoration circuit selectively. Another means is of two mixing means (33, 34) as to analog speech signals, analog data signals respectively and is of two switching devices (12, 30) as to outputting signals, incoming signals respectively.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 247 words
A data and speech transmission device comprising an outgoing transmission block (1) and an incoming transmission block (2), wherein said outgoing transmission block (1) being fitted with a speech transmission tester (11), which accepts selective input of speech signals (S1) and data signals (D1) and which, on receipt of said speech signal input, simultaneously issues a transmission interrupt signal (C3) to a data transmission controller (16) and, in the event that said speech input is discontinued and is not resumed for a fixed period of time as determined by a delay timer (13), outputs a transmission enabling signal (C2) in respect of the aforementioned data signals (D1), said speech transmission tester (11) also controlling the selective output of said speech signals (S1) and said data signals (D1) to a telephone line (L) after each of said groups of speech signals (S1) and data signals (D1) has been combined with one of two tone signals (A, B) of different frequencies, and said incoming transmission block (1) first inputting incoming signals to a comparator (24) by way of two band-pass filters (23a, 23b) which correspond in frequency to each of the two aforementioned tone signals (A, B), and then, after identifying said incoming signals, inputting them to a data and speech controller (25), the control signal output by said data and speech controller (25) being used for the selective connection of said incoming signals either to a speech restoration circuit (27a, 30, 31) or to a data restoration circuit.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 50 words
A data and speech transmission device according to claim 1, which is connected by way of an isolator (3) to a telephone line (L) and which outputs a signal to the incoming transmission block (2) whenever a signal is input from the outgoing transmission block (1) to said isolator (3).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
A data and speech transmission device according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein a timer (13) functions as an output timing delay means for data signals only, said timer (13) having no processing function in respect of the timing of the output of speech signals (S1).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
A data and speech transmission device according to one of claims 1 to 3, wherein two tone signals are both set to frequencies close to the upper limit value of the telephone line carrier wave band.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 31 words
A data and speech transmission device according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein an artificial noise generator (31) transmits noise to the telephone receiver whenever data signals are being received.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 39 words
A data and speech transmission device according to anyone of the preceding claims, which is connected by way of a telephone network (6) to a host computer (7) which is also equipped with a speech signal output means (7c).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 161 words
A data and speech transmission device which is equipped both with a mixing means (33) which combines a tone signal (A) with analog speech signals, and also with a mixing means (34) which combines a tone signal of different frequency to the aforementioned tone signal with digital data strings (32) after they have been converted to analog data signals, and comprising: a switching device (N) for outgoing signals witch tests the aforementioned speech signals and data signals, which have been selectively input, and transmits one or other of them to the telephone line (TEL), and a switching device for incoming signals which inputs incoming signals received by way of said telephone line (TEL) to two notch filters (44, 45), each of which corresponds in frequency to one or other of the two aforementioned tone signals, and then outputs the signals from the notch filter (44, 45) which matches the frequency of the tone signal specified by the aformentioned frequency tester (40).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 36 words
A data and speech transmission device according to claim 7, wherein both the outgoing transmission switching device and also the incoming transmission switching device are normally connected to enable the input or output of speech signals.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 45 words
A data and speech transmission device according to claim 7 or claim 8, wherein the incoming transmission switching device remains connected to the incoming speech side whenever the two tone signals included as part of the incoming signal elements remain below a specified threshold level.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 30 words
