Abstract
Abstract A method and a device is described. The probe device is a leading probe for surgical procedures which includes both instrument access and illumination. The leading probe device (1, 25, 70, 89) includes an annular arrangement of a plurality of light transmission fibers (9, 13, 15) about a central instrument-receiving working channel (5). The leading probe device (1, 25, 70, 89) may be fixed on the outer wall (21) of the eye by a notched footplate (17) with suitable suture material. Alternatively, the device may have an appropriate adhesive member for securing the leading probe at the surface of the eyeball (23).

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
98 words
A leading probe device for surgical operations, comprising a plurality of light conducting optical fibers (9, 13, 15) extending from a remote light source (14) to the leading probe device (1, 25, 70, 89), characterized in that the leading probe device (1, 25, 70, 89) forms an annular-like arrangement of said optical fibers (13, 15) at an operating end of and around a central axis of said leading probe device and having located in the center of said arrangement of said optical fibers, a working channel (5) of adequate diameter to permit the passage of surgical instrumentation therethrough.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
50 words
A leading probe device of claim 1, further characterized in that it includes an inner wall (11) and an outer wall (19) at its operating end so as to create an annulus, and that said plurality of optical fibers (13, 15) are located, at least in part, within said annulus.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
25 words
A leading probe device of claim 1, further characterized in that the operating end of said leading probe device (1, 25, 70, 89) is flexible.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
33 words
A leading probe device of claim 1 or 2, further characterized in that the optical fibers (13, 15) are of a high numerical aperture having a diameter of no bigger than 0,25 millimeters.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
34 words
A leading probe device of claim 1 or 2, further characterized in that the optical fibers (13, 15) are of a high numerical aperture having a diameter of about 0.1 to about 0.25 millimeters.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
42 words
A leading probe device of claim 1, further characterized in that the device further includes attachment means (77) for affixing said probe to a wall of an organ or body part upon which surgery is to be performed using suitable suture material.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
37 words
A leading probe device of claim 1, further characterized in that the device includes adhesive attachment means for affixing the probe to a wall of an organ or body part upon which surgery is to be performed.
