Abstract

Abstract A charge monitor for a battery operated computer includes a processor electrically connected to a plurality of signal generating circuits. The generated signals represent the temperature, voltage and current characteristics of the battery being monitored. The level of remaining battery energy is ascertained by utilising a predetermined discharge table which is dependent upon the battery temperature, voltage and current.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 124 words
An arrangement for monitoring the electrical energy level of a battery being used to supply a load current I, the arrangement comprising: means for generating a first electrical signal representative of the temperature BT of the battery, means for generating a second electrical signal representative of the battery voltage V, means for generating a third electrical signal representative of the battery load current I, means for selecting a predetermined discharge table defining at least a full charge zone, a medium charge zone and a low charge zone, said selecting means being dependent upon said first electrical signal and means for ascertaining the charge zone for the battery within the discharge table, said ascertaining means being dependent upon said second and said third electrical signals.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 34 words
An arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein said means for selecting and said means for ascertaining, together, comprise a processor electrically coupled to a non-volatile memory, said memory containing said predetermined discharge table.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
An arrangement as claimed in claim 2, further comprising means for visually indicating the particular zone which is ascertained, said visually indicating means being electrically connected to said processor.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
A portable computer, comprising: a battery driven main processor electrically connected to a monitoring arrangement as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3.
