Inflatable airbag for a restraining system in vehicles
Abstract
Abstract An inflatable airbag for restraining systems in vehicles is composed of an outer cover part (18) and two side parts (20, 22), sewn thereto. A fold (24) is arranged on one side part (20). The fold (24) is separated from the other part of the airbag (10) by means of a seam along a dividing line (26) running transversely with respect to the expansion direction. The seam is dimensioned in terms of its tearing resistance in such a way that the fold (24) rips open when a predetermined value of the airbag internal pressure is reached. By means of the fold, the expansion direction of the airbag can be controlled within a relatively wide range. At the same time, the emergence width and the emergence speed are reduced in a desired manner. Finally, the fold (24) also controls a pressure release opening (30) which is formed in one of the wall parts (24b) of the fold (24) which lie one above the another. <IMAGE>
