Optical waveguide ribbon cable and method and apparatus for manufacture of the ribbon cable
Abstract
An optical waveguide ribbon cable consists of a group of loose tubes (30) stranded together and a sheath that encloses them together. A stack of parallel optical fiber ribbons (15), which are provided with a tubular sheath (31), is used to build up a loose tube (30). A ribbon (15) is composed of a number of linearly adjacent, interconnected optical waveguide fibers. For good flexibility and space savings, it is proposed to arrange a layer (21 to 21 ''') of a swelling fleece (20) between the individual layers (17 to 17'''') of optical waveguide ribbons (15) lying one above the other in the stack. These swellable nonwoven layers (21 to 21 ''') run through the stack in the longitudinal direction and form a layer composite (25) with the optical waveguide tapes (15).
