Internal combustion engine with air compressor
Abstract
Abstract The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with air compressor. When gearwheels are used to transmit the torque from the crankshaft to the shaft of an air compressor, widely fluctuating torques occur with reciprocating air compressors and these torques impose considerable loads on the gearwheels and, in addition, lead to severe gear noise. In order to avoid this, the invention proposes to use an air compressor which operates on the rotary principle. A rotary compressor has a constant torque characteristic. As a result, the transmitting gearwheels are no longer exposed to these torque fluctuations and their life is thereby lengthened. Since, in rotary compressors, there is no torque reversal due to reverse expansion as in reciprocating air compressors, the gear noises, caused by the impact of the gearwheel flanks, are also considerably reduced.
