Abstract

Abstract The present invention refers to a system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, in which a television signal is encoded in order not to be received and reproduced in the normal way by normal television receivers, but only by receivers equipped with a suitable decoder, and in which the decoder includes a control circuit that periodically receives a secret code, by telephone from a central computer. The secret code is necessary for the decoding operation. The main characteristics of the invention consist in the fact that such secret code is transmitted by means of a ciphered procedure, at non fixed intervals, and in the fact that such system provides that the control circuit, the memory associated to it, a telephone modem and a battery pad be contained in one card, extractable from the decoder and linkable to the telephone line and that said decoder be individualized with an identification number.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 93 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, in which a television signal is encoded in order not to be received and reproduced in the normal way by normal television receivers, but only by receivers equipped with a suitable decoder, and in which the decoder includes a control circuit that periodically receives, by telephone, a secret code from a central computer, the secret code being necessary for the decoding operation, characterized by the fact that said code is transmitted by means of a ciphered procedure, and at non fixed intervals.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 50 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the secret code is transmitted in code and that the key to decipher said secret code is contained in a memory (M) associated to a control circuit ( CPU ).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 2, characterized by the fact that said control circuit ( CPU ) receives said secret ciphered code from the telephone line ( PH ), deciphers it in real time, utilizing said key, and keeps it memorized in special interior register (R).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 79 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that said system provides a defined protocol for the said central computers (CC) call and a device (BT), associated to the telephone line (PH), inserted upstream from the normal home telephone set (T) and equipped with means for detecting the call of the central computer (CC) and to exclude for the duration of such call the home telephone set (T).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 48 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 4, characterized by the fact that said protocol provides for said central computer (CC) making a one or two ring call, then to disconnect and recall after 15 seconds to transmit said secret code.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 62 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 4 or 5, characterized by the fact that said device (BT), connected to the telephone line, provides to detach the user's telephone (T) for a certain number of seconds on each incoming call, so as the user not be disturbed by the call of the central computer (CC).
Claim 7
Independent Claim 45 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to one of the previous claims, characterized by the fact that the call of said central computer (CC) in order to change said secret code is effectued once a day, during nocturnal hours.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 44 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to one of the previous claims, characterized by the fact that said central computer (CC), recalls back twice, with intervals of 15 minutes, if the user line (PH) results to be busy.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 7, characterized by the fact that said call is carried out between 1 o'clock and 05:30 A.M..
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 45 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 7, characterized by the fact that said device (BT), connected to the telephone line, includes an interior timer, eventually made with CMOS technology, fed by the doubled telephone wire (PH) itself.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 67 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 10, characterized by the fact that said timer provides to define the nocturnal hours, during which said device (BT), associated to the telephone line, detaches the user's telephone (T) for a certain number of seconds on every incoming call, so as the user not be disturbed by the the central computers (CC) call.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 47 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 9, characterized by the fact that said call, destined to a certain user, is carried out everyday at a different time, that is defined on the grounds of a sequence of pseudocasual numbers.
Claim 13
Independent Claim 118 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, in which a television signal is encoded in order not to be received and reproduced in the normal way by normal television receivers, but only from receivers equipped with a suitable decoder, and in which the decoder includes a control circuit and receives, by telephone, a secret code from a central computer, the secret code being necessary for the decoding operation, characterized by the fact that said system provides that the control circuit (CPU), the memory (M) associated to it, a telephone modem (MD) and a battery feeding pad (B) be contained in a container (CB), extractable from the decoder and linkable to the telephone line (PH).
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 28 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 13, characterized by the fact that said decoder is individualized by an identification number.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 76 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 14, characterized by the fact that said central computer (CC), once in contact with the control circuit (CPU) and before transmitting the new secret code, requires said identification number and checks if the holder of the decoder is up to date with his payments and whether that day the decoder individualized with that particular number has already received the new secret code.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 44 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 15, characterized by the fact that said microprocessor (CPU) is provided to be in the position to call said central computer ( CC ) to get the new secret code.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 51 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 16, characterized by the fact that in the memory (M) associated to said microprocessor (CPU) the toll free number is already contained in order to call said central computer (CC) and to obtain the new secret code.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 50 words
A system for the transmission and reception of encoded television signals, according to claim 16, characterized by the fact that said microprocessor (CPU) controls a visual indicator (display) that indicates whether for that day, the new secret code has been already inserted and for how long it will be valid.
