Abstract
Abstract Sulfoalkyl substituted indolenine dyes that absorb infrared radiation and photosensitive elements containing said dyes are disclosed. These dyes are useful as antihalation dyes in infrared sensitive photographic elements which show dye low stain. These dyes are represented by the following structure: wherein X is F, Cl, or Br; R is a hydrocarbon moiety containing from two to about five carbon atoms; and Y is a cation. In a preferred embodiment X is Cl. In a more preferred embodiment R is -(CH₂)₃- or -(CH₂)₄-.
