Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
40 words
A CBN abrasive tool for grinding, sawing, milling, honing of various grades of cast iron and steel, comprising a metal substrate and a single layer of surface modified CBN grits bonded to the said metal substrate by a braze alloy.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
42 words
The CBN abrasive tool of claim 1, wherein surface chemistry of the CBN grits is modified by depositing a film of carbide selected from transition elements of group IV A, V A or VI A strongly adhered to the CBN crystal surface.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
51 words
The CBN abrasive tool of claim 1, wherein the braze alloy are conventional Ni-based alloys characterized by their inability to wet and bond untreated CBN grits effectively below 1200° C but are able to wet and bond the said CBN grits at temperature below 1200° C only because of surface modification.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
19 words
The method of claim 2, wherein the film is deposited by conventional CVD at temperature not above 1200° C.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
11 words
The method defined in claim 4, wherein the film is TiC.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
22 words
The method defined in claim 4, wherein the film around the CBN grit is TiC and the outermost film is chromium carbide.
