Abstract

Abstract There is disclosed an omnipresent sound system for use by a listener in an artificial reality system which operates to couple sound with the presented objects such that as the sound moves with respect to the user, the user will have the perception of the changing sound both in pitch and in volume. The sound system (10) is comprised of a series of piezoelectric elements (102) spaced apart around a user's head. The system is designed to program each element individually so as to create the illusion of omnipresent three-dimensional sound in conjunction with images presented to the listener, which images define an artificial environment.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 57 words
A sound system for use in creating the illusion of holographic sound in an artificial reality system, said sound system comprising: a headband to be worn by a listener; a plurality of discrete vibratory elements placed circumferentially around said headband, said elements each adapted for receiving electrical impulse signals and for producing sound waves in response thereto.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 57 words
A sound system for use in creating the illusion of holographic sound in an artificial reality system, said sound system comprising: a headband to be worn by a listener; a plurality of discrete vibratory elements placed circumferentially around said headband, said elements each adapted for receiving electrical impulse signals and for producing sound waves in response thereto.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 14 words
The system set forth in claim 1 wherein said vibratory elements are piezoelectric strips.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
The system set forth in claim 1 wherein said system further comprises: a processor for coordinating the provision of said impulse signals to said elements.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 141 words
The system set forth in claim 1 wherein said artificial reality system is operable for creating artificial viewing environments for a plurality of viewers, said environments each including predefined structures, said artificial reality system comprising: a geographical sensor connectable to each said viewer for providing data pertaining to the relative movement of said viewer; a processor local to each said viewer for accepting said data from said local viewer and from a plurality of other viewers; and a presentation media for providing views of said created environment to each said viewer, said views controlled by said local processor and dependent upon said accepted data from said local viewer and data from said other viewers; and wherein said processor is further operative for coordinating the provision of said impulse signals to said elements in association with said provided views to said viewer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
The system set forth in claim 4 wherein said artificial environment for each said viewer is created by said local processor and wherein the environment and said impulse signals for each said viewer is unique to said viewer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 122 words
The system set forth in claim 1 wherein said artificial reality system is operable for creating an artificial viewing environment for a viewer, said environment including predefined structures, said artificial reality system comprising: a geographical sensor connectable to said viewer for providing data pertaining to the relative movement of said viewer; a processor local to said viewer for accepting said data from said local viewer; a presentation media for providing views of said created environment to said viewer, said views controlled by said local processor and dependent upon said accepted data from said local viewer; and wherein said processor is further operative for coordinating the provision of said impulse signals to said elements in association with said provided views to said viewer.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 48 words
A method of creating a sound system comprising the steps of: placing a headband around the head of a listener; distributing a plurality of discrete vibratory elements circumferentially around said headband, said elements each adapted for receiving electrical impulse signals and for producing sound waves in response thereto.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 48 words
A method of creating a sound system comprising the steps of: placing a headband around the head of a listener; distributing a plurality of discrete vibratory elements circumferentially around said headband, said elements each adapted for receiving electrical impulse signals and for producing sound waves in response thereto.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 38 words
The method set forth in claim 7 further comprising the step of: providing electrical impulses to selected discrete elements in accordance with the direction of origin from which a particular sound is to be perceived by said listener.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 14 words
The method set forth in claim 8 wherein said vibratory elements are piezoelectric elements.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 32 words
The method set forth in claim 7 wherein said method further comprises the step of coordinating via a processor integral with said headband, the provision of said impulse signals to said elements.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 39 words
The method set forth in claim 7 further comprising the step of: associating said sound with an artificial reality system which is operable for creating artificial viewing environments for a plurality of listeners, said environments each including predefined structures.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 87 words
The method set forth in claim 11 further comprising the steps of: connecting a geographical sensor to each said viewer for providing data pertaining to the relative movement of said viewer; accepting, via a processor local to each said listener, said data from said local listener and from a plurality of other listeners; and providing views of said created environment to each said listener, said views controlled by said local processor and dependent upon said accepted data from said local listener and data from said other listeners.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 38 words
The method set forth in claim 11 wherein said artificial environment for each said listener is created by said local processor and wherein the environment and said impulse signals for each said listener is unique to said listener.
