Abstract

Abstract A telecommunications switching system is disclosed which integrates intelligent network (IN) services with regular telephone services. A service control processor (101), which implements the IN services, is also periodically made aware of regular network functions. The SCP then allocates resources for IN calls based upon not only the amount of IN calls, but rather, based upon the total network conditions; i.e. IN calls, regular telephone calls, faulty transmission lines, telephones taken off hook, etc.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 126 words
In a telecommunications system including a plurality of switches (102,103) for routing incoming calls, at least one Service Control Processor (SCP) (101) for communicating with the switches, and a plurality of telecommunications equipment (105-110) coupled to the switches, the SCP including stored availability information relating to the telecommunications equipment, a method of operating the telecommunications system CHARACTERIZED IN THAT a query is sent to the SCP when any of the switches receives an incoming call which is a result of predetermined numbers being dialed, and availability update information is sent to the SCP, said availability update information being determined from both incoming calls which are a result of the predetermined numbers being dialed, and from other availability determinants which change the availability of the telecommunications equipment.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein at least one of said telecommunications equipment is a telephone.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the SCP and the switches are implemented in different hardware arrangements.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method as claimed in claim 1,2 or 3 wherein the SCP includes means for sequentially polling said switches and for receiving messages and queries therefrom.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 14 words
A method as claimed in any preceding claim wherein N is greater than 1.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 120 words
A telecommunications switch (102,103) for routing dialed calls to a set of telecommunications equipment (105-110) by working in conjunction with a service control processor (SCP) (101), said telecommunications switch being CHARACTERIZED BY means for sending availability information to the service control processor (SCP), thereby informing the SCP of the number of telecommunications equipment at a particular telephone number available to accept incoming calls, means for mapping, in the SCP, each logical number dialed by a user of the telecommunications switch to a physical number to which a call should be routed, and means for routing the call to the physical number if the SCP indicates that there are at least N pieces of telecommunications equipment available to accept incoming calls.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
A switch as claimed in claim 6 wherein at least one of said telecommunications equipment is a telephone.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
A switch as claimed in claim 6 or 7 wherein N is greater than 1.
