Abstract
Abstract A process for introducing additives into a polyamide or polyester melt comprising: a) dispersing at least one pigment or nonpigment colorant or mixtures thereof in an at least partially volatile liquid vehicle with a water dispersible/soluble polyamide or copolymer or a water dispersible/soluble polyester or copolymer as a dispersant and a stabilizer; b) feeding the resulting dispersion to a vented extruder which is extruding a polymer, and c) removing the fed volatiles through the extruder vent to achieve a substantially homogeneous system containing the polymer and at least one additive.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim
26 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the dispersant is a water dispersible/soluble copolymer of caprolactam, hexamethylenediamine, isophthalic acid and sulfonated isophthalic acid or a salt thereof.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
34 words
The process of claim 1 or 2 wherein the stabilizer is one or more of: polyethoxylates; polypropoxylates; block copolymeric polyetehrs; long chain alcohols; polyalcohols; alkyl-sulfates; alkyl-sulfonates; alkyl-benzenesulfonates; alkyl-phosphates; alkyl-phosphonates; alkyl-naphthalenesulfonates; carboxylic acids; and perfluoronates.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
33 words
The process of claims 1 to 3 wherein the dispersion contains from 0.075 to 7.5% per weight dispersant and from 0.75 to 7.5% per weight stabilizer by 100% per weight (total) dispersion weight.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
18 words
The process of claims 1 to 4 wherein the polyamide is nylon 6, nylon 6.6 or mixtures thereof.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
55 words
The process of claims 1 to 5 wherein the resulting polyamide or polyester mixture is a batch concentrate containing: 60 to 70% per weight of a polyamide or polyester, about 25% per weight of a pigment or a nonpigment colorant, 0.25 to 2.5% per weight of the dispersant and about 5% per weight of stabilizer.
