Abstract

Abstract A liquid crystal display includes a plurality of laminated liquid crystal layers and a transparent substrate interposed between the liquid crystal layers, the transparent substrate being formed of an aggregate of optical fibers (6), arranged so that a ray may be introduced between main and back surfaces of the substrate, whereby aberration of a display image of adjacent liquid crystal layers caused by a difference of a viewing angle can be prevented.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 71 words
A liquid crystal display comprising: a plurality of laminated liquid crystal layers; and a transparent substrate interposed between the liquid crystal layers, said transparent substrate being formed of an aggregate of optical fibers arranged so that a ray may be introduced between main and back surfaces of the substrate, whereby aberration of a display image of adjacent liquid crystal layers caused by a difference of a viewing angle can be prevented.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 25 words
A liquid crystal display of claim 1, wherein a twist angle of the liquid crystal forming the liquid crystal layer ranges from 90° to 360°.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A liquid crystal display of claim 1, wherein the liquid crystal forming the liquid crystal layer is guest host liquid crystal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A liquid crystal display of claim 1, wherein the liquid crystal layer has a red, green and blue color filter layer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 66 words
A liquid crystal display of claim 1, wherein the transparent substrate comprises a transparent electrode which drives the liquid crystal layer on both surfaces thereof, a part of the aggregate of the optical fibers is formed of an optical fiber whose periphery is coated with a conductive material and the transparent electrode on both surfaces of the substrate are electrically connected by the coated optical fiber.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 18 words
A liquid crystal display of claim 1, wherein the liquid crystal comprises a reflecting electrode on its surface.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 94 words
A liquid crystal display device comprising at least first and second superposed liquid crystal cells (a, b) each including a liquid crystal layer (3a, 3b; 13a, 13b; 23a, 23b) disposed between opposed electrodes (4a/4b, 4c/4d; 14a/14b, 14c/14d; 14a/14b, 14c/15b; 24a/24b, 24c/24d) for selectively applying voltages across said liquid crystal layer, characterised in that a transparent substrate disposed between the liquid crystal layers of said first and second cells comprises an optical fibre plate (6; 16; 26a) having a multiplicity of parallel optical fibres (f) extending between the opposite faces of said optical fibre plate.
