Abstract

Abstract A rotary member (2) is continually held suspended in the space by a strong pinning force (fishing effect) of high temperature oxide superconductors (1) under superconductive state. The magnetic field of the magnets (3) on thus suspended rotary member (2) is distributed concentrically about the center of the pinning force, so that the rotary member can be continually rotated in a non-contact state while being lifted off the high temperature oxide superconductors (1). Thus, by utilizing the external energy via an input/output device (10,11), the theory member (2) is rotated in a vacuum tank (6) under highly vacuum state and is held continually rotating for an extended period of time. By taking out the kinetic energy of rotary member via the input/output device, the stored energy can be taken outside.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 199 words
An energy storage system for storing energy from outside in the form of rotational energy and for arbitrarily taking out the stored rotational energy which comprises an insulated container (4) which houses high temperature oxide superconductors (1), a cooling device (7) which cools a coolant such as liquid nitrogen and liquid helium for maintaining said superconductors (1) inside the container (4) at a temperature below the critical temperature of the superconductor, a rotary member (13) which comprises annular or disk-like permanent magnets (3) or electromagnets (3) having concentrically distributed lines of magnetic force and a weight (2) attached to said magnets to increase the force of inertia, a vacuum tank (6) which at least houses said insulated container (4) and also houses said rotary member (13) in a freely rotatable manner and which is maintained at a very low pressure by a depressurizing device (8), and input/output devices (10, 11) which imparts a rotational force to said rotary member (13) in the vacuum tank (6) with an external energy to cause the member (13) to rotate ro thereby store said external energy in the form of rotational energy as well as to take out the stored energy of rotation.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 69 words
The energy storage system as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the magents (17) that are concentrically arranged on the rotary member (18) and are opposing said high temperature oxide superconductors (1) inside the insulated container (4) are divided into sections (17a, 17b, 17c, 17d) in the radial direction of the rotary member (18) in order to increase the magnetic gradient of the magnetic field formed by said magnets (17).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 50 words
The energy storage system as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 wherein the high temperature oxide superconductors (26a, 26b) housed in the insulated container (4) have different radii, are arranged concentrically and are disposed between the magnets (27a, 27b) which also have different radii and are arranged concentrically in multilayers.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 66 words
The energy storage system as claimed in Claims 1 through 3 wherein a liquid level regulating device (12) is provided to constantly maintain the depth of the liquid nitrogen (5) or liquid helium at a given level inside the insulated container (4) so that the high temperature oxide superconductors (1) in the insulated container (4) can be submerged in the liquid nitrogen (5) or liquid helium.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 50 words
The energy storage system as claimed in Claims 1 through 4 wherein the input unit of the input/output device which causes the rotary member (18) to rotate with an external energy is an electric motor (10) having a clutch mechanism (19) interposed between the unit and the rotary member (18).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 39 words
The energy storage system as claimed in Claims 1 through 5 wherein the output unit of the input/output device is a power generator (11) having a clutch mechanism (19) interposed between the power generator (11) and the rotary member.
