A disc cartridge comprising a cartridge (2) rotatably accommodating a disc-shaped recording medium (1) therein and having a recording/reproducing aperture (3a) for exposing at least a part of said disc-shaped recording medium (1) to the outside along the radius of the disc (1), a shutter member (4) movably attached to said cartridge (2) for opening or closing said aperture (3a), and discriminating means (10a, 10b) for discriminating the type of the recording medium (1) accommodated in said cartridge (2), said discriminating means (10a, 10b) being provided in a recess (10) for shutter opening actuation in said cartridge (2) for closing at least a part of said recess (10).

The disc cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said recess (10) for shutter opening actuation is provided on the forward side of said cartridge (2) in the inserting direction (A) into a recording and/or reproducing apparatus and wherein said discriminating means (10a, 10b) is provided on the upstream side of said recess (10) when said aperture (3a) in said shutter member (4) is moved from a closure position to an opening position and on the upstream side of the closure position of said aperture.

A device (20) for opening a shutter (4) movably mounted on a disc cartridge (2) comprising a cartridge (2) rotatably accommodating a disc-shaped recording medium (1), said shutter (4) being adapted for opening or closing an aperture (3a) formed in said cartridge (2), said device (20) comprising an arm member (22) rotated by said disc cartridge (2) moved in an inserting direction (A), and shutter opening means (22b) provided on the free rotating end of said arm member (22) and introduced into a recess (10) formed in said disc cartridge (2) for shutter opening actuation, said shutter opening means (22b) being inserted in the direction of the major surface of said disc cartridge (2) and adapted for moving said shutter (4) in the direction of opening said aperture (3a) as a result of rotation of said arm member(s) (22).
