Abstract Method for manufacturing a catheter comprising manufacturing a hose-like basic body of flexible material, braiding a reinforcing sheath around said basic body, arranging at least one outer layer of flexible material around said reinforcing sheath and finishing of the obtained assembly to a catheter. Device for manufacturing a catheter comprising means for manufacturing a hose-like basic body of flexible material, a braiding machine for braiding a reinforcing seath around said basic body and means for arranging at least one outer layer around said reinforcing sheath and finishing the obtained assembly, wherein said braiding machine comprises transporting means for transporting a hose-like catheter basic body in a transport direction according to a line of axis in its lengthwise direction and sheath braiding means placed in a braiding position around said line of axis, characterized in that said braiding machine comprises in the transport direction embedding means arranged directly subsequent to the braiding position and having a guide channel disposed coaxially to said line of axis and a calibrated diameter corresponding with the desired embedded diameter of said reinforcing sheath.
