Abstract

Abstract A portable electronic device comprises a control section comprising CPU (22) and ROM (14) which turn off a power (21) if a keyboard (13) has not been operated for a predetermined period of time, set whether the power is to be turned off, and set the predetermined period of time in which the power is turned off. The ROM (14) saves data which is being processed when the power is turned off, even after the power is turned off. The CPU (22) enables the process which is interrupted when the power is turned off to be resumed, on the basis of the data stored in the ROM (14) and determines whether to resume the process which is interrupted when the power is turned off.

A portable electronic device comprising: control means (10) for executing a data processing; display means (12) for displaying data; and a power source means (21) for the display means; characterized in that said control means (10) comprises; first means (14, 22) for turning off the power to the display means; second means (14) for saving a processing state before the second means turn off the power; third means (13, 14, 22) for determining whether to resume, a process from the processing state which is saved by the second means or not when the power is turned on; and forth means (12, 14, 22) for resuming the process on the basis of the data saved by the second means when the third means is selected to resume the process.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 63 words
A device according to claim 1, characterized in that said second, third and fifth means include a RAM (14), means (22) for causing the RAM to store data for setting whether to turn off the power, data for setting the predetermined period of time, and data for enabling the process which is being processed when the power is turned off to be resumed.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 32 words
A device according to claim 2, characterized by further comprising means (11, 15) for electrically and exchangeably connecting said saving means for causing the RAM to store data to a main body.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 49 words
A device according to claim 1, characterized in that said third means include means (14, 22) for causing the display means (12) to indicate the resume function is to work or not, and means for selecting fulfilling or not the resume function based on the indicate by the display.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 49 words
A device according to claim 1, characterized by further including: fifth means (14, 22) for setting the first means whether to turn off the power; and sixth means (12, 14, 22) for setting the predetermined period of time in which the power is turned off by the first means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 172 words
A portable electronic device characterized by comprising: data processing means; power supply means (21) for supplying a power to the data processing means; first means (14, 22) for setting whether to effect an automatic power-off function for automatically ceasing the power supply for data processing when a predetermined period of time has passed after an input operation for the data processing; second means (14, 22) for setting whether to effect a resume function for performing data processing succeeding to the data processing which is being performed when the power supply is ceased; third means (14, 22) for automatically ceasing the power supply according to the first means if the first means set the automatic power-off function is effective; forth means (12, 14, 22) for inquiring whether to fulfill the resume function or not when the power supply is resumed, if the second means set the resume function effective; and fifth means (13) for selecting fulfilling or not the resume function in accordance with a response to the inquiry by said forth means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
A device according to claim 6, characterized in that the first means include means for setting a desired period of time for the automatic power-off function is.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
A device according to claim 7, characterized in that said first means include a storage means (14) for storing the set time.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 27 words
A device according to claim 6, characterized in that said third means includes a guidance display means for impulting whether to fulfill the resume function or not.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 135 words
A portable electronic device characterized by comprising: processing means for executing data processing; display means (12) for displaying data; power source means (21) for supplying power to said display means; first means (14, 22) for stopping power supply for said display means; second means (14) for saving data representing a processing state of said processing means at a time before the power supply is stopped; third means (14) for instructing to resupply power to said display means; fourth means (12, 14, 22) for instructing whether to return to said processing state of said processing means represented by the data stored in said second means, when said third means instructs to resupply power; and fifth means (12, 14, 22) for returning to said processing state, when said fourth means instructs to return to said processing state.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 56 words
A device according to claim 9, characterized in that said fourth means comprise guidance means for instructing said display means to display a guidance message for inputting an instruction whether to return to said processing state, and input means for inputting an instruction whether to return to said processing state with reference to the guidance message.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 35 words
A device according to claim 9, characterized by further comprising sixth means (12, 14, 22) for instructing to return to an initial state, when the fourth means instruct not to return to said processing state.
