Tubing element forming an electromagnetic borehole source
Abstract
Abstract The electromagnetic source is intended to be fixed permanently in a borehole in order to study the electromagnetic properties of the geological formations (1) or fluids surrounding the borehole. The source consists of a coil (5) in which a large current is made to flow and which has a diameter of the same order of magnitude as that of the borehole (2). The coil is integrated into one of the elements (3) lining the shaft, which is produced at least partly in a resistant material in which the coil (5) is embedded. The source may either be activated through a conducting runner (8) travelling directly down the borehole (2) or be connected through cables (23, 24) to an electrical supply. <IMAGE>
