Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 178 words
A disposable pricker comprising a body integrally moulded in plastics material to have two parts (7,11) connected by a thin bridge (6), and a spring-loaded lancet (1) having a tip (4) projecting from one end carried by a first part (7) and co-operating with guide means (17,22) on a second part (11), said first part (7) being movable from a first position into a second position in full engagement with said second part (11), causing the lancet (1) to be released from the guide means (17,22) and its tip (4) momentarily to project from said body under the influence of the spring loading (10), characterised in that the bridge (6) forms a hinge between the two parts (7,11), such that said two parts are mutually pivotable from the first position to the second position in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the lancet, and in that said guide means (17,22) keeps the lancet (1) captive to said first part (7) when the latter is in said first position and until it is in said second position.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 33 words
A pricker as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the guide means (17) retain the lancet (1) in a primed, spring-energised condition when said first part (7) is in said first position.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
A pricker as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the guide means (22) are shaped to cause the lancet (1) to shift relative to said first part (7), thereby to energise the spring loading (10) as said first part (7) is moved into said second position.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 57 words
A pricker as claimed in Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterised in that the lancet (1) has a generally cylindrical body of moulded plastics material co-axially encasing a needle (3), the tip (4) of the needle projecting from one end of the body initially being protected by an integrally moulded cap (5) breakable from the main body.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
A pricker as claimed in Claim 4, characterised in that the first part (7) has means (9) by which the lancet body can be held by one hand while the cap (5) is removed by the other.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
A pricker as claimed in Claim 4, characterised in that the guide means (17,22) co-operates with the lancet body (1) and cap (5) to remove the cap as said first part (7) is moved to said second position.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
A pricker as claimed in Claim 5 or 6, characterised in that the guide means (17,22) are shaped to shield the tip (4) so that it is virtually inaccessible when the cap (5) has been removed.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 63 words
A pricker as claimed in any preceding claim, characterised in that the momentary projection of the lancet is achieved by a mouth (14) of said second part (11) through which the tip (4) of the lancet projects when released, the mouth having a resilient tab (21) which flexes to allow such projection but which immediately bends back to cause retraction of the lancet.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 36 words
A pricker as claimed in any preceding claim, characterised in that the two parts (7,11) are locked together in their full engagement condition by the released lancet (1) bridging those parts within a virtually closed passage.
