Abstract The invention relates to a system for transmitting wide-screen video signals in accordance with the so-called letterbox process. According to the invention, only higher-frequency signals are transmitted in the lines at both ends. This prevents conventional synchronisation signal separators from operating incorrectly. <IMAGE>
