Abstract

Abstract An antithrombotic blood treating system comprising a combination of a permselective hollow fiber membrane containing a copolymer having a polyethylene oxide unit; a header having a blood-contacting surface coated with either a heparinized hydrophilic copolymer containing vinyl chloride as the constituent or a hydrophilic copolymer having a polyethylene oxide unit; a catheter; and a circuit. It becomes possible for the first time to conduct extracorporeal circulation for a long period of time without the necessity for internally administering heparin by imparting an antithrombotic property to the entire blood-contacting surface.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 28 words
An anti-thrombogenic blood treating system, according to claim 1, wherein the inner surfaces at the joints between the headers, catheters and circuits are free from any discrete protrusions.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 59 words
An anti-thrombogenic blood treating system, according to claim 1, wherein the selectively permeable hollow yarn membranes are made of a composition containing a copolymer consisting of a monomer with a polyethylene oxide component of 5 or more in polymerization degree and a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond in the same molecule and a monomer with a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
An anti-thrombogenic catheter, with a catheter tube joined with a connector, comprising a layer of a heparinized hydrophilic copolymer containing vinyl chloride as a component monomer or a layer of a hydrophilic copolymer layer with polyethylene oxide component, being formed at least on its blood contact surface.
Claim 5
