Abstract A reproducing apparatus has a memory for storing compressed image data; a unit for supplying the stored data to a reproducing unit for reproducing the stored data as a visual image; and a unit for causing the memory to retain the compressed image data irrespective of the operation of the supplying unit. <IMAGE>
