Abstract

Abstract IN A SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING THE DISTRIBUTION OF TORQUE TO THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT WHEELS OF A MOTOR VEHICLE a differential (10) is provided for distributing torque (Te) to the left (8L) and the right (8R) wheels of the vehicle. A fluid operated multiple-disk clutch (16) is provided for restricting the operation of the differential (10). A speed (Δ W) difference between the left and the right wheels is calculated, and an input torque (Ti) to the differential (10) is determined. The fluid operated multiple-disk clutch (16) is operated in accordance with the speed difference (Δ W) and the input torque (Ti), in such a manner that the restricting force is proportional to the speed difference and the input torque.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 152 words
A system for controlling a torque distribution to left (8L) and right wheels (8R) of a motor vehicle having, a transmission (3), a differential (16) for distributing an output torque of the transmission to said wheels (8), and a restricting device (16) for restricting a differential operation of said differential (10), comprising: means for determining an input torque (Ti) to said differential (10); setting means (44) for setting a restricting force of said restricting device (16) to a value according to the input torque (Ti); and control means (47) responsive to said restricting force for operating said restricting device (16) so as to accurately control said torque distribution without wheel slipping characterised in that a calculator means (45) is provided for calculating a difference in speed (Δω) between the left and right wheels and said setting means sets said restricting force (D) to increase with an increase of said speed difference (Δω).
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein said restricting device (16) is a fluid-operated friction clutch.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 38 words
A system according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein said differential input torque (Ti) is determined in accordance with output torque (Te) of an engine (1) of said vehicle and a gear ratio of said transmission (3).
