Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim
91 words
A method for improving the adhesion of paint to a plastic formed part prior to painting the plastic formed part, comprising contacting the plastic formed part with a treating solution comprising an aequous medium and at least one alkali builder selected from the group consisting of the silicates, phosphates, carbonates, and alkali hydroxides; rinsing the treating solution from the plastic formed part; and contacting the rinsed plastic formed part with a surface-conditioning solution comprising 0.001 to 100 g/l of a nonionic surface-active agent having an HLB value from 10 to 17.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
52 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein the treating solution further comprises a hydrocarbon solvent suspended in the aequous medium, the hydrocarbon solvent being selected from a group consisting of the aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons having C₆ or more carbons, aromatic hydrocarbons having C₆ ≈ C₁₈ carbons, terpene hydrocarbons and petroleum naphtha.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
17 words
A method according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the treating solution further comprises a surface-active agent.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
23 words
A method according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the surface-conditioning solution has a resistivity of at least 10,000 Ω · cm.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
28 words
A method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the plastic fomred part is immersed in said treating solution under the condition of applying an ultrasonic wave.
