Beim Verfahren nach der Erfindung werden bewegte Bildinhalte unter Zuhilfenahme einer Objektmaske erkannt und unabhängig vom umgebenden unbewegten Bild-Hintergrund verschoben. Statt eines blockorientierten Prädiktionsbildes wird ein objektorientiertes Prädiktionsbild ermittelt. Hierfür werden im Empfänger Form und Art des bewegten Bildinhaltes aus der üblicherweise übertragenen Bewegungsinformation und der herkömmlich decodierten Bildsequenz ermittelt und in einer Objektmaske, die bewegte Objekte ständig verfolgt, abgespeichert. Mit Hilfe dieser Objektmaske läßt sich ein verbessertes Wiedergabebild durch kopieren des Bildhintergrundes aus einem Bildspeicher erstellen.
