Abstract Padding and side protective device for a motor vehicle passenger compartment wall, able to be moved between a rest position in which the padding (3) is immobilized on the wall (5) and a working position in which the padding is introduced into the passenger compartment following the triggering of an activating system (10), characterised in that the padding is put in connection with a mechanically triggered activating means for which the energy of activation is communicated by the deformation of an outer wall (6) of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
