Device for testing electrical loads of a car which are connected with a direct current source
Abstract
Abstract The said loads receive their operating instructions from an electronic control unit (ECU). For test purposes, this unit is connected, in accordance with the criteria of DIN/ISO 9141, to a diagnostic computer (PC) in which the test software is stored on a corresponding carrier, for example a diskette. During a test, a shunt is inserted into the current path between direct current source (2) and load (15), which, after activation of the load to be tested by the diagnostic computer (16), generates a voltage drop dependent on the current consumption of the said load. This voltage drop is measured and compared with a load-specific nominal value in the diagnostic unit. In the case of a difference, the magnitude of this difference produces an accurate indication of the actual damage in the load or error in its function. <IMAGE>
