Abstract

Abstract Method for the mutual connection in lengthwise direction of a first tube (1) and a second tube (2) of thermoplastic material, comprising the forming of an axial end face on each tube, positioning the tubes with the axial end faces against one another wherein in communicating central channels thereof a close-fitting core (22) is arranged and a close-fitting sleeve (24) is arranged around the tubes, rotating at least one of the tubes relative to the other and at the same time urging the tubes in axial direction towards one another in order to heat the end faces through frictional heat to a softening temperature of the plastic. Close to the end faces the tubes are held enclosed in radial direction between the core (22) and the sleeve (24), ending the rotation, allowing the tubes to cool at least slightly, and removing the core (22) and the sleeve (24), whereby the tubes are butt-welded to one another.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 149 words
Method for the mutual connection in lengthwise direction of a first tube and a second tube of thermoplastic material, comprising the forming of an axial end face on each tube, positioning the tubes with the axial end faces against one another wherein in communicating central channels thereof a close-fitting core is arranged and a close-fitting sleeve is arranged around the tubes, rotating at least one of the tubes relative to the other and at the same time urging the tubes in axial direction towards one another in order to heat the end faces through frictional heat to a softening temperature of the plastic, wherein close to the end faces the tubes are held enclosed in radial direction between the core and the sleeve, ending the rotation, allowing the tubes to cool at least slightly, and removing the core and the sleeve, whereby the tubes are butt-welded to one another.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 149 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
Method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first tube is a body and the second tube an end part of an angiographic catheter.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
Method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the basic body is of the type comprising an embedded reinforcing layer of thin, braided wire.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
Method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the core extends continuously over a distance at either side of the abutting end faces.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 72 words
Method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the basic body comprises in the central channel a metal core wire resulting from the manufacture thereof, and wherein a portion of the body is removed from the core wire and onto the resulting pro-truding portion of the core wire the catheter end part is pushed so that the core wire forms the core during rotational butt-welding of the end part to the basic body.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
Method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tube are urged towards one another with a constant force.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 148 words
Device for rotational butt-welding of a first tube and a second tube of thermoplastic material comprising a frame, first holding means connected to the frame for fixedly holding an end of the first tube directed along an axis, second holding means connected to the frame for fixedly holding an end of the second tube directed along the axis, a sleeve disposed coaxially to the axis between the first and second holding means, a core to be received in a central channel of the first and second tube, wherein at least one of the first and second holding means is connected to the frame for rotation along the axis and capable of being rotated by rotation drive means, at least one of the first and second holding means is connected to the frame for movement towards the other and capable of being urged towards this other by loading means.
Claim 9
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 30 words
Device as claimed in claim 7, wherein the first holding means are connected rotatably to the frame and the second holding means are connected thereto for movement towards the first.
