Abstract

Abstract An automobile-simulation graphics display D is generated in sequential frames (1-7) in dependence upon positions and movements of driver controls 12, 14, 16, 18, signalled by transducers 22. Non-linear suspension and chassis models 26 and 28 operate in conjunction with a road model 34, to derive from the transducer outputs, representation of a current vehicle-position (including orientation). A prediction of vehicle-position five display-frames in the future is made from this representation by a chassis prediction model 36 using drive-train and steering and control extrapolations derived by units 30 and 32 from the transducer outputs. The five-frame lead compensates for delay in computing, processing data for generation of the image display, and display of the image (54, 56, 58).

Claim 1
Independent Claim 81 words
A method for providing a display simulating a vehicle in real time in accordance with signals derived in dependence upon vehicle-control actions of a driver or other operator, characterised in that signals representative of vehicle position are derived from the first-mentioned signals, that predicted-position signals in accordance with successive predictions of position of the vehicle at a predetermined later time are derived in accordance with the position-representative signals, and that the simulation display is provided in dependence upon the predicted-position signals.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 81 words
A method for providing a display simulating a vehicle in real time in accordance with signals derived in dependence upon vehicle-control actions of a driver or other operator, characterised in that signals representative of vehicle position are derived from the first-mentioned signals, that predicted-position signals in accordance with successive predictions of position of the vehicle at a predetermined later time are derived in accordance with the position-representative signals, and that the simulation display is provided in dependence upon the predicted-position signals.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
A method according to Claim 1 wherein the time lead in the predicted-position signals compensates substantially for delay in the provision of the display from those signals.
Claim 4
