Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to an automotive internal combustion engine mounted as a transverse engine into a vehicle compartment (1) in a manner that the cylinder bank of the engine extends rearwards from a vertical. Moreover, an output shaft (16) is provided in parallel with the crankshaft (6) in order to transmit the output power of the engine to the drive wheel shafts. Said output shaft (16) is disposed in such a manner that a plane (L2) containing the axis of the crankshaft and the axis of the output shaft intersects at an acute angle with another plane which is defined by the axis of the cylinder barrels of the cylinder bank.
