Abstract

Abstract A crosstalk level detector (26) has a processing circuit for determining the level of crosstalk of a signal read by an information reproducing system from an information storage medium (11) with information recorded in its tracks. The processing circuit (23, 24) compares levels of reference signal components contained in the read signal and produced from adjacent signal tracks it positions aligned in a direction normal to the tracks, and calculates the crosstalk level based on the compared levels. The reference signal components may be derived from a signal recorded in the information stored medium, such as horizontal synchronizing signal (HsYnc) recorded in an optical video disk.

A device for detecting the level of crosstalk of a signal (LR) which is read from an information storage medium (11) having a plurality of signal tracks (12, 13, 14) with periodic signals (Hsync) recorded therein at positions in a radial direction of the tracks, while the signal tracks (12, 13, 14) are being traced, the device comprising: means (16, 20n-1, 20n, 20n+1, 23, 24) for comparing the levels of reference signal components (Cn, Cn-1, Cn+1) contained in the read signal (LR) and produced from adjacent signal tracks (12, 13, 14) at positions aligned in the direction, thereby determining the level (VREV, VFWD) of crosstalk of the read signal (LR).
Claim 2
Independent Claim 110 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 125 words
A device according to claim 1, wherein the means comprises: reference signal extracting means (16, 20n-1, 20n, 20n+1) for extracting, at least, the reference signal component (Cn) contained in the read signal (LR) from the track (12) being traced, and the reference signal component (Cn-1, Cn+1) contained in the read signal (LR) from the track (13, 14) adjacent to the track (12) being traced, in timed relation to periodic rotation of the information storage medium (11); and processing means (23) for comparing the level of the reference signal component (Cn) from the track (12) being traced and the level of the reference signal component (Cn-1, Cn+1) from the adjacent track (13, 14), thereby determining the level (VFWD, VREV) of crosstalk of the read signal (LR).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 74 words
A device according to claim 2, wherein the reference signal extracting means (16, 20n-1, 20n, 20n+1) comprises: filter means (16) for passing only the reference signal components contained in the read signal (LR); and memorY means (20n, 20n-1, 20n+1) for storing the reference signal components (C, Cn-1, Cn+1) from the respective tracks (12, 13, 14), having passed through the filter means (16), in timed relation to periodic rotation of the information storage medium (!1).
Claim 5
Independent Claim 46 words
A device according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the means comprises inclination detecting means (16, 20n-1, 20n+1, 24) for detecting an inclination of the information storage medium (11) based on the levels (Cn-1, Cn+1) of crosstalk from the adjacent signal tracks (12, 13).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 129 words
A device according to claim 4, wherein the inclination detecting means (16, 20n-1, 20n, 20n+1, 24) comprises: reference signal extracting means (16, 20n-1, 20n+1) for extracting the reference signal components (Cn-1, Cn+1) contained in the read signals (LR) from the tracks (14, 13) located radially inwardly and outwardly, respectively, of the track (12) being traced, in timed relation to periodic rotation of the information storage medium (11); and processing means (24) for comparing the level of the reference signal component (Cn-1) from the radiallY inner track (14) and the level of the reference signal component (Cn+1) from the radially outer track (13), and producing a differential signal (H) indicative of the difference between the compared levels as a signal indicative of the inclination of the information storage medium (11).
Claim 7
Independent Claim 40 words
A device according to any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the information storage disk comprises an optical disk (11), the reference signal component (C) comprising a horizontal synchronizing signal (Hsync) contained in information recorded in the optical disk (11).
