Abstract

Abstract There is provided an image encoding method in a facsimile apparatus or an image filing apparatus as an image communication apparatus. In this method, a color image signal which is expressed by a plurality of color component signals to be encoded is input, the input color image signal is converted into a bit stream signal, and the bit stream signal is encoded by the prediction encoding. A parameter for the prediction encoding is changed in accordance with the color image signal to be encoded. The encoding operation is executed adaptively to the color image signal to be encoded. By bit stream converting the binary color signal, the efficient encoding using the color correlation can be executed and an increase in data amount is prevented. By encoding the bit stream signal by using a dynamic arithmetic code, a binary color image can be efficiently encoded.

An image encoding method comprising the steps of: inputting a color image signal which is expressed by a plurality of color component signals to be encoded; converting the input color image signal into a bit stream signal; and encoding the bit stream signal.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein in said encoding step, the bit stream signal is encoded by a prediction encoding.
Claim 4

Claim 6
Dependent Claim 87 words
An image encoding method comprising the steps of: giving an index to each appearance probability of less probable symbols of a limited number which were approximated by the power of 2; updating the index so as to reduce the appearance probability in the case where a predetermined number of most probable symbols occurred; updating the index so as to increase the appearance probability in the case where the less probable symbols occurred; and encoding an image signal in accordance with a parameter corresponding to the updated index.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 87 words
An image encoding method comprising the steps of: giving an index to each appearance probability of less probable symbols of a limited number which were approximated by the power of 2; updating the index so as to reduce the appearance probability in the case where a predetermined number of most probable symbols occurred; updating the index so as to increase the appearance probability in the case where the less probable symbols occurred; and encoding an image signal in accordance with a parameter corresponding to the updated index.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method according to claim 5, wherein a condition to update the index in said updating step differs in dependence on each index.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 20 words
A method according to claim 5, wherein in said encoding step, the encoding operation is executed by an arithmetic operation.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 60 words
An arithmetic coding system or method for data coding in which an approximation to the appearance probability of a data value is indicated by an index value which can adopt one of a plurality of discrete values, and the index value is altered during data coding in accordance with a count value for the occurence of a particular data value.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 60 words
An arithmetic coding system or method for data coding in which an approximation to the appearance probability of a data value is indicated by an index value which can adopt one of a plurality of discrete values, and the index value is altered during data coding in accordance with a count value for the occurence of a particular data value.
